Principal Matt McLean assumes his role at West Pine Elementary effective July 1, 2024. Mr. McLean is an experienced educational leader with over a decade of service as a school administrator.
Mr. McLean earned his school administrator license through the Sandhills Leadership Academy, which was housed in Moore County Schools, in 2013.
He recently completed five years as principal at Clement Elementary School in Sampson County. While leading Clement Mr. McLean successfully completed the NC Principal and Assistant Principal Association's Distinguished Leadership in Practice program, was an inaugural member of the NCPAPA Principal Practitioner's Network and serves on the NC Text Book Commission.
Previous roles include assistant principal and athletic director at Cape Fear High School where Mr. McLean was recognized by the NCHSAA as the 2019 NC Athletic Director of the Year, assistant principal at J.R. Ingram Elementary School in Sanford, NC, administrative intern at Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary in Fayetteville, and teacher/coach/club advisor at Jack Britt High School (12 years), 71st High School, and E.E. Smith High School.
Mr. McLean is currently completing his Educational Specialist degree at East Carolina University with an anticipated graduation in May 2025. He completed graduate studies at Fayetteville State University and earned his undergraduate degree as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow at UNC Greensboro.
Mr. McLean graduated from E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville and is an Eagle Scout.
